Upper East Regional Police Command Acquires 3 Motorbikes To Increase Patrols

  The Upper East Regional Police Command has acquired three new Yamaha Motorbikes to augment the motorbike patrols in the Bolgatanga Divisional and Zuarungu Police Commands as a strategy to combat crimes, particularly armed robberies. The motorbikes valued at GH¢31,400 would add to the existing fleet at the Police Motorbike Patrol Unit to be able to clamp down on criminals that use unregistered motorbikes to embark on robbery operations in some unmotorable parts of the Region. Briefing Briefing Graphic Online on the motorbike patrol exercise, the Public Affairs Officer of the Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP),Mr David Fianko-Okyere, stated that plans were advanced to operationalize the Regional Highway Patrol Unit of the service by the first of next month(June 1,2021).

70% of St. Cloud Area Veterans are Vaccinated [PODCAST] This month on WJON s Voices for Veterans segment I was joined by Barry Venable, Public Affairs Officer from the St. Cloud V.A. and Josh Goudge, Veteran Services Supervisor from the St. Cloud V.A.  Barry says 70% of veterans enrolled at the St. Cloud V.A. have been vaccinated for Covid-19  including more than 90% of those 85 years of age and older.  He says he d like to see veterans 50 and younger get the vaccine in larger numbers than what they are currently seeing.  Venable says if we re going to beat the pandemic we need everyone to join in, get vaccinated .  He says if a person were to get a mild case of Covid-19 it is important to not pass it to others.  Venable says the St. Cloud V.A. is still offering the vaccine for veterans.  Call to make an appointment at 252-1670 extension 6339.

Ohio seeing more speeding crashes despite fewer cars on the road

What is surprising is that speed-related accidents maintained similar numbers during the pandemic when fewer people were driving.  According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in 2019 there were 30,354 speed-related crashes. In 2020, there were 30,120. Sgt. Ray Santiago, Public Affairs Officer with Ohio State Highway Patrol, says the department has been tracking and analyzing the numbers. “During COVID times, the vehicular traffic that was on the roadways did seem to be moving a little faster than normal,” says Sgt. Santiago.
