Court bans NDC from further demo, protests in Accra LISTEN 6
The Accra Regional Police Command has secured a restraining order against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), from embarking on further protests and demonstrations in Accra. In a matter between the Republic (Ghana Police Service) and National Democratic Congress and Kobina Ade Coker, the High Court, under Justice Elfreda Amy Dankyi (Mrs.), has prohibited all NDC intended protests from Sunday 20th December, 2020- 10th January, 2021.
These were contained in a press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, Head, Public Affairs Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command, and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
The National Democratic Congress has been banned from further protests in the nation s capital.
In a statement signed by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, they explained that the
prohibition order follows an affidavit filed by the police upon receipt of notification from the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, kobina Ade Coker, on intended daily protest within the above-mentioned dates in Accra and all constituencies across the region.
The restraining order granted by Justice Elfreda Amy Dankyi is expected to prevent the opposition party from demonstrating until January 10, 2021.
The court noted that
the request by the NDC cannot obviously be met by the police in view of the ongoing post-election and multifaceted security operations for the festive season and beyond .
Police deny arrest of man behind market fires LISTEN 1
The Accra Regional Police Command has denied that a man behind the recent market fires in some parts of Ghana has been arrested.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Command, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday.
She said somebody somewhere might have concocted the story and that the Police had never made such arrest.
A section of the media on Monday, December 21, reported that the Ghana Police Service had arrested an alleged arsonist behind the recent Kantamanto market fire.
They quoted an Accra Daily, which stated that the suspect, Daniel Dah Kormlah, aged 41, was identified through police investigations into the Kantamanto fire incident.
Fire destroys 12 fabric shops at Kaneshie LISTEN

Fire on Saturday night burnt down 12 fabric shops at the Kaneshie Market about 2300 hours.
Security personnel suspect electrical fault to be the cause of the fire as smoke was seen coming out from the fuse box in front of one of the affected shops.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command told the media that the cost of the items the fire destroyed was not readily available, adding that no casualty was also recorded.
DSP Tenge said on Saturday December 19, 2020 at about 2300 hours, Police received information that there was a fire outbreak at the second floor at the Kaneshie market complex.
