New Delhi, June 3 : The Centre on Thursday said that wheat procurement increased by 5.44 per cent, in comparison to last year s total purchases, during the current Rabi Marketing Season (RMS).
It also said that wheat was procured with an all-time high MSP value of Rs 81,196 crore during the current RMS.
Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said that during current RMS, procurement of wheat is continuing smoothly in the procuring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir at MSP, and upto June 2, a quantity of over 411.12 lakh metric tons (LMT) has been procured against the last year s total purchase of 389.92 LMT.

The holding up of imported edible oil consignments in Indian ports for nearly two weeks has led to drying up of supply pipepline temporarily and steps are being taken to release them at the earliest.
On Monday, Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey had said some edible oil stocks are being held up in two Gujarat ports – Kandla and Mundra – because of delay in some tests meant for general risk analysis.

The Food Corporation of India and State procurement agencies have so far procured 33.8 million tonnes (mt) of wheat compared with 24.8 mt procured during the corresponding period last year. This is already 79 per cent of 42.7 mt target set for the current rabi season, Union Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said on Monday.
While around 12.87 mt procured have been procured from Punjab, 9.49 mt and 8.07 mt of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, respectively. Uttar Pradesh, on the other hand, contributed around 2.01 mt and Rajasthan’s share has been 1.17 mt.

As much as 80 lakh tonnes of foodgrains will be distributed to 80 crore belonging to Antyodaya Ann Yojana and Priority Households during May and June incurring a total expenditure of ₹ 26,000 crore. This will be over and above their entitlement under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
During PM-GKAY during April to November last year, the government distributed 298.89 lakh tonnes of foodgrains at a cost of around ₹1.05 lakh crore. Almost 93 per cent of the NFSA beneficiaries received benefits under the PM-GKAY scheme.
