Shura Council discusses draft law on mortgaging movable funds  18 Jan 2021 - 12:31 QNA Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud. At the beginning of the meeting, the Council discussed a draft law on mortgaging movable funds. The draft law includes 9 chapters and 49 articles, which aims to give companies and individuals the opportunity to acquire bank loans guaranteed by mortgaged movables and contribute to lowering the cost of loans by finding guarantees for banks that reduce the risk of default. The move will benefit small and medium-sized enterprises in playing a major role in enhancing the local economy.

/ The Montana Senate Business, Labor, and Economic Affairs Committee takes executive action on Senate Bill 65 on Jan. 15, 2021. The Montana Senate Business, Labor, and Economic Affairs Committee Friday supported a bill that would protect businesses from COVID-19 related lawsuits, provided they follow health guidelines. Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte requested the legislation as a condition for lifting the statewide mask mandate. Republican Sen. Steve Fitzpatrick of Great Falls said the bill would raise the threshold for a lawsuit from ordinary to gross negligence. “This is to restart Montana’s economy, Fitzpatrick said. The committee approved Senate Bill 65 with an 8 to 3 vote. In addition to businesses, the policy would protect places of worship, health care providers and nonprofit organizations from getting sued if someone is exposed to COVID-19 while visiting their locations provided that business or organization is complying with local, state or federal regulations.

74,000 expat workers registered under expired Govt contracts - ARAB TIMES

Messenger KUWAIT CITY, Jan 14: According to reliable sources, about 74,000 workers are still registered under expired government contracts and their conditions have not been addressed, reports Al-Rai daily. They said the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has dealt with the conditions of about 85,000 workers registered under those contracts, either by ensuring they left Kuwait or by transferring them to other contracts that are still in effect. Deputy Director of PAM Dr. Mubarak Al-Azmi revealed the coordination with all government agencies with contracts for completed government projects, in order to take necessary actions towards the contractors, liquidate the workers registered on those contracts, and give them a period not exceeding a month to implement the liquidation procedures. In case of non-compliance by contractors, PAM shall be notified accordingly.

Messenger KUWAIT CITY, Jan 14: The Deputy Director-General of Manpower Protection at the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), Dr. Mubarak Al-Azmi said PAM is coordinating with all government agencies which were part of completed government projects to take the necessary measures to ensure workers registered on these contracts are terminated, while at the same time giving the contractors one month’s grace period for this purpose. Al-Azmi said, in a statement in light of the mandate given by the Council of Ministers to PAM to follow up coordination with the relevant government agencies to take legal measures towards addressing defects in the expired government contracts, and in light of the recommendations of the Economic Affairs Committee issued on the basis of a report submitted by PAM.
