Treasurer Fitzgerald’s Great Iowa Treasure Hunt Returns $18.5 Million During Fiscal Year 2021
DES MOINES, Iowa – With the fiscal year wrapping up on June 30, State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald’s Great Iowa Treasure Hunt celebrates more unclaimed property being returned, even reaching a $300 million returned milestone. “In fiscal year 2021, which ran July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, over $18.5 million was paid out to more than 20,000 past and present Iowans through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt,” said Fitzgerald. “In May, I announced the program reached $300 million returned, and I look forward to what we will accomplish in the upcoming year!”

State Treasurer Fitzgerald Announces Increased College Savings Iowa Deduction Amount for 2021
State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald announces the College Savings Iowa 529 Plan state tax deduction has increased for 2021. “Iowa taxpayers who are College Savings Iowa account owners can now deduct the first $3,474 they contribute per beneficiary account from their state taxable income in 2021,” Fitzgerald said. “This could mean a deduction of up to $13,896 for a family of four when both parents have accounts for each of their children! It’s an ideal scenario for those who want to keep more money in their pocket while saving for future education.”
