UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says he expects Biden will take this meeting.
“I mean he’s doing something that clearly impacts the constituents of their states and he certainly doesn’t want to alienate a sizable group of Republicans in the Senate,” said Cross.
In his first two weeks in office, Biden canceled the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline and issued a moratorium on new oil and gas leases on federal lands and waters.
Cross says Biden made climate change a priority during his campaign and he does not expect the new President to back off of his positions.
U.S. Senator John Kennedy was one of six US Senators to vote against certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s win in the Electoral College.
UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross said Kennedy has clearly determined the biggest risk to his reelection in 2022 would be if he faces a strong challenger from his right.
“In terms of who he needs to support him to get reelected I believe that Senator Kennedy’s vote will not hurt him at all,” said Cross.
Senator Bill Cassidy voted to certify the results. Five of the six Senators who voted against certification come from SEC states.
