RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A U.S. Air Force military plane violated Venezuela’s airspace on Thursday, denounced Friday the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), through a statement signed by Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino.
“The Bolivarian National Armed Force denounces the violation of Venezuelan airspace by a C-17 heavy military transport aircraft belonging to the United States Air Force, which occurred last night (…) from 20:47 (00.47 GMT on Friday) until 20:50 (00.50 GMT),” reads the communiqué.
The plane reportedly made “a route of about 14 nautical miles (almost 26 kilometers) over the westernmost area of the Sierra de Perijá,” in the northwestern state of Zulia (on the border with Colombia), always following the claims of the armed forces.

Venezuelan security forces operating against rebels at the Colombian border have “committed egregious abuses” of human rights against the local population, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Monday. HRW alleges the execution of at least four peasants, torture of civilians suspected to be working with armed groups, arbitrary arrests, and prosecution of civilians in military courts.
Venezuelan security forces, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), clashed against the rebel Colombian armed group, Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), in rural areas of Apure on March 21. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has estimated that at least 5,800 people have been forcibly displaced since then. Most of them have fled to Arauquita in Colombia as a result of egregious human rights abuses, frequent airstrikes, and fighting. They live in overcrowded shelters with insufficient humanitarian aid, and fear reprisals in Venezuela.
Extrajudicial Executions, Arbitrary Arrests, Torture in Anti-Guerrilla Operation
(Washington, DC) – Venezuelan security forces have committed egregious abuses against local residents during a weeks-long operation against armed groups on the border with Colombia, Human Rights Watch said today.
Venezuelan security forces opened the offensive in Apure state on March 21, 2021, with the alleged purpose of combatting armed groups in Venezuela. The operation led to the execution of at least four peasants, arbitrary arrests, the prosecution of civilians in military courts, and torture of residents accused of collaborating with armed groups. The abuses follow a pattern similar to that of systematic abuses that have led to international inquiries into possible crimes against humanity in the country.
