For outdoor enthusiasts, it’s no mystery why Idaho places among the top 10 of states ranked by happiness, according to a 2020 survey by Wallethub that looked at factors such as emotional and physical well-being. With a rugged Rocky Mountain landscape and more than 20 million acres of national forest land, the state is known for its boundless recreational opportunities. Pocatello, billed as the Gateway to the Northwest, has a thriving mountain-biking and hiking scene, and a prime location within a day trip of three National Parks: Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Craters of the Moon. Missouri State Parks is accepting nominations for an all-terrain and utility task vehicle (ATV/UTV) riding representative to serve a three-year term on the Missouri Trails Advisory Board.
A news release says members must be Missouri residents and must participate in the user group they represent. New board members are appointed based upon experience with trail use and trail construction, community involvement, trail user group participation, ability to represent other trail users, ability to devote adequate time to the duties, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) knowledge and experience.
Roles of the Missouri Trails Advisory Board include: • Review, score and rank applications and make recommendations to the Grants Management Section for funding.

SC Palmetto Trail organizers want new 26-mile path

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) The foundation that oversees South Carolina’s Palmetto Trail is looking for money to link one part of the trail in Richland County to another mostly in Sumter County.
The 26-mile (42-kilometer) new trail will be called the Cook’s Mountain Passage and connect a current trail near Fort Jackson in Columbia to the Wateree Passage in southeast Richland County, The Sumter Item reported.
When built, Cook’s Mountain Passage will provide a critical link in the goal to complete 500 miles (805 kilometers) of walking trails from the mountains to the sea in South Carolina, Palmetto Conservation Foundation officials said.
McCALL â The McCall, New Meadows, and Krassel Ranger Districts of the Payette National Forest are applying for grant funding from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) to support the Forestâs recreation program. The districts are planning to submit two applications through IDPRâs Off-Road Motor Vehicle (ORMV) fund, and two applications through the Recreational Trails Program (RTP).Â
On the McCall and New Meadows Ranger Districts, ORMV funds will be used to support the Payette Avalanche Center (PAC) through the purchase of a new snowmobile. The PAC issues five avalanche advisories each week and plays a critical role providing public safety information throughout the winter season. ORMV funds will also be used to support the over snow vehicle ranger program, which has been in place for several years. RTP funds are being sought to improve and update trail signage across the New Meadows and McCall Ranger Districts, as well as fund work to redu
