The City of Wood River has been awarded a $2.5 million grant to build a new Rec Center. The 1% municipal service tax will be used to pay for much of it, and the PARC Grant will cover about one-third of the projected cost of the work.
PARC is an acronym for Park and Recreation Facility Construction and is administered by the state. Wood River Park and Recreation Director Jason Woody tells The Big Z he is excited to hear the news from the state.

The Jerseyville Park and Recreation Department will also receive a PARC grant in the amount of $450,000. In that case, the money will be put toward replacing the existing Susnig Center gym floor and bleachers, upgrade restrooms, and install a new roof. Retractable batting cages will be installed, and portable basketball goals will be provided.
