POCATELLO Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 voted to immediately suspend its mask mandate at a board meeting Tuesday.
“For the duration of the 2020-2021 school year, face coverings/masks will be optional for all learners, staff and visitors,” district officials said in a news release.
The decision is a product of the recent announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with a recent downturn in COVID-19 cases within the district, the release says. Last week, the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people do not need to wear masks except when in healthcare settings, on public transportation, or in other areas where governments require masks.

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) – Six outstanding Idaho math and science teachers have been named as the 2021 state finalists for the national Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra announced.
These secondary-school teachers were selected by a panel of mathematics and science education experts. Their applications will now be sent to the National Science Foundation, competing to become Idaho’s national awardees one in math and one in science.
“These inspired, skilled teachers are great choices for PAEMST, the nation’s highest honor for teachers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields,” Superintendent Ybarra said. “They have a gift for sharing their passion and insight with their students, equipping them for success in higher education and beyond.
