New Delhi: India will set up a transport system operator to auction gas pipeline capacity, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday, as the country seeks to deepen its gas markets and reduce its carbon footprint.
India, a signatory to Paris Climate accord, will also launch a Hydrogen Energy Mission in the next fiscal year to March 2022 for generating hydrogen from green power sources, Sitharaman said in her budget speech.
In 2021, the oil and gas industry in India has an arduous task of helping the economy revive quickly, while negotiating the headwinds of global recession, protectionism and geo-political upheaval. Positive signs of recovery and growth were visible in the fourth quarter of 2020, as fiscal and monetary stimuli provided by the government got translated .
“We plan to have a transport system operator (TSO) in place, which will manage the common carrier part of the entire gas pipeline system in the country,” Petroleum Secretary Tarun Kapoor told.
