USDOT Issues New Guidance on TOD Project Funding Written by Marybeth Luczak, Executive Editor
New York City’s Moynihan Train Hall opened for Amtrak and MTA Long Island Rail Road service Jan. 1. The $1.6 billion project received $525.1 million in TIFIA program assistance.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Build America Bureau has clarified the eligibility of transit-oriented development (TOD) projects for funding under the Transportation Infrastructure Finance & Innovation Act (TIFIA) and Railroad Rehabilitation & Improvement Financing (RRIF) programs.
While Congress, through the FAST Act, determined that TIFIA and RRIF could support TOD projects, USDOT had not set clear guidelines, which “became a barrier” to using the funds, the Department reported.
