Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a normally thoughtful liberal Democrat whose New York constituents put up with some of America’s most treacherous pothole-dotted roads, creaky bridges and rusty rail lines, figured she would try her hand at expanding the nation’s understanding of infrastructure this week.
She blew it.
It’s too bad Gillibrand wasn’t trying out for a standup comedy routine. The stir she created was the equivalent of a social media laugh riot.
In Gillibrand’s mind, infrastructure traditionally considered to be roads, bridges and rails, as well as sewers, water lines and power grids should now include social programs.
