Colorado Approves $110 Million Electric Vehicle Charging Program with Major Equity Provisions

Denver, Colorado  - Yesterday, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) issued a decision that approves Xcel Energy’s $110 million transportation electrification plan, a three-year effort to deploy up to 20,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at residential, commercial, and public sites in Colorado and support vehicle electrification through rebates, advisory services and research projects. Xcel Energy’s Transportation Electrification Plan is the first approved by the Commission under a law passed in 2019 that required Colorado’s electric utilities to develop EV plans and will help support the State’s goal to put nearly one million EVs on Colorado roads by 2030. The company intends to grow EV usage among its more than 440,000 customers through incentivization efforts that include rebate and pilot rate programs. It also intends to challenge preconceived notions or lack of awareness on the benefits of EVs through a customer outreach program meant to improve familiarity with and knowledge of electrification.

El Paso Electric files transportation electrification plan with the New Mexico PRC El Paso Electric (EPE) has filed its Transportation Electrification Plan (TEP) with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) for approval. The overarching goal of this two-year plan is to increase the use of electric vehicles (EVs) by incentivizing the installation and usage of smart charging infrastructure through rebate and pilot rate programs while, addressing the challenges associated with the lack of awareness of both the technology and benefits of EVs. EPE’s TEP includes: A Customer Outreach Program to improve familiarity and awareness of EVs, and the benefits of transportation electrification.
