KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition against the cabinet decision with regard to the award of a contract to the federal government’s corporate body for supplying number plates of vehicles having radio frequency identification.
Petitioner Syed Ghulam Mohiuddin and others had assailed the decision to award the contract to a corporate body under the Ministry of Defence for supplying RFID technology vehicle number plates for the Sindh province without inviting a tender under the provisions of the Sindh Public Procurement Act, 2009 and Rules 2010.
The petitioners submitted that they also had the capability to manufacture and supply the said number plates. They submitted that the provincial cabinet decided to award the contract to the respondent in exercise of powers conferred under Section 21 of the procurement law that exempted the procurement from the operation of SPPA 2009.
Two held for attacking health team

MUZAFFARGARH: Police have arrested two outlaws for attacking a health team during the anti-typhoid vaccination campaign at a private school.
Reportedly, a health team went to a private school for inoculation of anti-typhoid vaccine to the kids at Chowk Sarwar Shaheed area. In the meantime, the parents of the kids attacked the health team, including four women and one male vaccinator, and injured them. The injured were shifted to THQ Hospital Chowk Sarwar Shaheed. Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and arrested two attackers and registered a case.

42 tonnes of poppy seeds seized at Chattogram port

Customs authorities on Tuesday claimed to have seized 42 tonnes of poppy seeds worth Tk 15 crore at Chattogram port.
Officials said that the poppy seeds were imported from Malaysia by a trader based in Old Dhaka Ajmin Trade Center in the garb of mustard seeds. The seizure was made on a tip-off.
On April 18, Ajmin Trade Center s clearing agent Hotline Cargo International submitted a bill of entry to the Chattogram Customs department to unload the consignment of two containers and paid Tk 1,42,497 as duty for mustard seed imports.
