After filmy-style chase, NCB catches Mumbai drug peddler

Mumbai, May 21 : Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths managed to nab a drug peddler after a filmy-style chase on a suburban road, while two other accomplices managed to escape, a top official said here on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday when a team of NCB was lying in wait for 3 peddlers who had come to deliver drugs on a two-wheeler to a customer, near Veera Desai Industrial Estate.
Intercepted by the NCB, the trio tried to escape on their two-wheeler and the NCB sleuths chased them for nearly two-and-half kms, said NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede.

The Supreme Court would hear after four weeks a plea by a dentist who has challenged the Delhi High Court order dismissing his petition seeking directions to the Centre, Central Vigilance Commission and CBI to probe and launch prosecution on his complaint against Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) chief Rakesh Asthana.
The plea against the high court’s order came up for hearing on May 13 before a bench of Justices UU Lalit and BR Gavai.
“At the request of the counsel for the petitioner, the matter is adjourned for four weeks,” the bench said in its May 13 order.

Mumbai: Nigerian man arrested by NCB for smuggling MDMA
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a drug peddler in Mumbai. The arrested man has been identified as Okeke Liunes Okechikwe. He is a Nigerian national.
He was arrested by the NCB on Wednesday from Vasai. He was allegedly involved in the trafficking of MDMA.
MDMA is a psychoactive drug. MDMA is banned under the NDPS Act. Commonly known as Ecstasy, it is a party drug that alters moods and perceptions.
According to the NCB, inputs were received that a Nigerian man is involved in the smuggling of banned drugs. Accordingly, officials laid a trap and apprehended the accused.

AAA The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a First Information Report in the reported seizure of drugs, arms and ammunition from a Sri Lankan fishing vessel off Vizhinjam in March.
The FIR was filed before the Special Court for NIA cases, Ernakulam.
The Narcotics Control Bureau had earlier registered a case after the law enforcement agencies arrested six Sri Lankan nationals and reportedly seized 301kg of heroin, five AK 47 rifles and 1000 9mm ammunition from the vessel Ravihansi from Arabian Sea on March 25. Cases were booked against the foreign nationals under the provisions of the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code.
