Our shelter remains full, having an average wait list of 40 individuals seeking emergency shelter. During the early weeks of the pandemic, our legal advocates saw as many cases in three days as they see in an average month. Severe harm to victims in Stark County is increasing. Abusers in many cases are working from home, or in some cases have lost their jobs. Reports of an increase in alcohol consumption and drug usage are documented that put victims at higher risk. Additionally, this is a dangerous time where abusers use the pandemic as an excuse to isolate and control victims.
