Kolkata, Mar 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari, once considered a close aide of Mamata Banerjee filed his nomination papers from the Nandigram constituency in poll-bound West Bengal on Friday.
Adhikari was accompanied by Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Dharmendra Pradhan.
Ahead of filing nomination, Suvendu visited Singhabahini temple. My relationship with them is very old. Mamata Banerjee remembers them every 5 years during the elections. They will defeat her. I am also filing my nomination today. I am a voter of Nandigram, he said while speaking to the locals here.

Kolkata, Mar 10: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination papers from the Nandigram seat on Wednesday, as the stage is set for the Battle Royale in the constituency.
She would then attend a workers meet and return to Kolkata on March 11.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, whose name was announced as the BJP candidate from the seat on Saturday, will file the nomination on March 12. After filing nomination papers, he will address a rally there, BJP leader Kanishka Panda said.
Nandigram, the cradle of the anti-land acquisition movement that catapulted Banerjee to power in 2011, will witness her once protege Suvendu Adhikari taking on her on April 1, in the second of the eight phases of polling. Nandigram, Mar 10: Posters projecting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as an outsider surfaced in Nandigram on Wednesday, the high-profile constituency from where the TMC supremo is set to file her nomination for the assembly polls during the day.

The posters with Nandigram-Medinipur wants the son of the soil and not outsiders written on them in Bengali were put up in the assembly constituency.
Banerjee is pitted against her former confidante Suvendu Adhikari, who joined the BJP some time ago, in the Nandigram seat that will go to poll on April 1 in the second phase.
The BJP on Saturday challenged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to announce that she will contest the coming state election only from Nandigram if she is confident of her victory, prompting TMC to hit back and ask the saffron party to first name its chief ministerial candidate.
