Thailand extends ban on hog, pork imports from Philippines

PH food producers are facing the worst crisis in years, says farmer group

Published May 14, 2021, 3:40 PM The country’s food producers – farmers, fishermen, and livestock raisers – are now facing the worst crisis in years. This was declared by United Broiler Raisers’ Association (UBRA) President Bong Inciong during the Farmers and Fisherfolks Congress on Friday. According to Inciong, the country’s food producers are now experiencing the worst crisis in years amid the pandemic due to several factors, such as “decades of government neglect, the prevalence of COVID-19 pandemic, and pro-importation policies of the government.” (MB file, Keith Bacongco) “We are now paying the price for the long-term neglect of the sector. The economy and our people would not be as badly hit if agri-fisheries were in a better place [prior to the pandemic],” Inciong said.

Request to raise tariff on pork being analyzed | Philippines Lifestyle News

May 10, 2021 The Philippine Tariff Commission is studying an agricultural group’s request to increase the tariff on imported pork. The Agricultural Industry Association (Sinag) has asked the commission to raise the tariff to 40 percent for in-quota or your minimum access volume entries to be charged by the lower tariff this year. About 44 percent of the request is for out-quota or those that exceed the minimum access volume. It even agreed that the Senate and the Department of Finance would make the tariff only 15 to 20 percent for the in-quota and 20 to 25 percent for the out-quota. “Hindi talaga kailangan na binabaan ‘yong taripa na nirekomenda sa NEDA (National Economic and Development Authority) and [economic] team,” said Sinag Chairman Rosendo So.
