Elmore gets $75,000 grant for launch ramp on Portage River

(Photo by D’Arcy Patrick Egan) The Village of Elmore will get a $75,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to improve its paddling adventures on the Portage River this year. With the Ottawa County waterway being developed as the Portage River Water Trail, the grant will be used to develop a new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible canoe and kayak launch and improved loading and unloading area at Harry Witty Park.

Waterworks Park getting new sidewalk, steps around Lake Erie Love sign Access mats, new launch part of the plan PORT CLINTON - To make the area around and east of Waterworks Park s Lake Erie Love sign more accessible to visitors, the city is putting in a sidewalk and steps that lead down to the city s beach. Mayor Mike Snider said the city noticed so many people standing on the lake side of the Lake Erie Love sign to take photos that the dirt and sand had been depleted. Snider said Masonry Construction Co. is putting in a sidewalk around the sign area and steps that visitors can use to walk down to the beach.
