Foundation Det Norske Veritas contributes S$10 million to help launch a maritime decarbonization centre in Singapore Foundation Det Norske Veritas – which owns DNV Group – has teamed up with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and five other industry leaders to establish a maritime decarbonization centre in Singapore. The centre’s stated mission is to catalyse and facilitate decarbonization in the maritime sector and will be supported by contributions from the founding members totalling S$120 million. Its creation follows the release of a recommendation by the International Advisory Panel (IAP) – a Singapore Maritime Foundation initiative – on maritime decarbonization to set up a decarbonization centre in Singapore.

by Roslan Khasawneh (Reuters) BHP Group Ltd said on Thursday it completed its first refuelling of a ship with biofuel this month in a trial run that is part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. It was also the first time that a ship has been refuelled with biofuel in Singapore, the world’s largest bunkering hub. A biofuel blend derived from certified sustainable feedstock sources such as cooking oil, crude tall oil and sewage sludge was used on April 4 to refuel the 81,000 deadweight tonne dry bulk carrier Kira Oldendorff which was on its way from Australia to Europe.

The IAP has identified nine pathways to maritime decarbonisation, including policy options to accelerate the transition and ways in which Maritime Singapore can support the industry’s decarbonisation.
