NYC forecast: Snow has started; 4 to 8 inches could fall Thursday, Friday, NWS says; commuter alerts

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Forecasters are predicting that Staten Island will be buried in several more inches of snow by a storm that began early in the Thursday morning rush hour and could last into Friday.
The snow began falling lightly around 6:45 a.m., but by a little after 7 a.m., had picked up in intensity and coated sidewalks and streets.
Roads have been heavily salted throughout the borough, however they are already getting slippery. In some cases, snow is covering ice on streets and sidewalks.
