Porsche’s EV line-up expands with a crossover wagon version of the mighty Taycan. Has it lost anything in the transition?

The Porsche Taycan has already set the benchmark for EVs in regular (for want of a better word) sedan form. Even if it so happens to be an expensive benchmark, at that. For its next gambit, the German sports car company is expanding its EV range with a high-riding, off-road-biased estate version dubbed the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. Presumably, a ‘plain’ wagon version of the Taycan wouldn’t have tempted SUV-hungry buyers into showrooms, so the Cross Turismo rides at least 20mm higher than a Taycan and is clothed in lots of black plastic cladding. Porsche has launched the fourth variant of its first all-electric sports saloon, expanding the existing range comprising of the Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan 4S. The new entry-level model, which is priced at Dh362,000, features rear-wheel drive and is available with two battery sizes. The standard Performance Battery delivers up to 408 PS (300 kW) in overboost mode with Launch Control, whereas the optional Performance Battery Plus increases to an output of up to 476 PS (350 kW).

Now here’s something really eye-catching. Like it or not, this will get you the stares. Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has introduced special editions of the eighth-generation DN8 Hyundai Sonata and the Grand Starex Executive Plus. Looking at the what we have here, SE might as well be for “sporty edition” (it’s not).
Let’s start with the MPV, which is dressed-up N-style. The inspiration is clearly the iMax N “Drift Bus” that Hyundai Australia created in 2019 for laughs. Like literally, as that one-off van started out as an April Fool’s joke. The links are clear – we have the Performance Blue paint, a bodykit with a red lip, and big 19-inch wheels with 245/45 tyres.

Porsche has unveiled a new entry-level version of the Taycan fully electric sports sedan, featuring rear-wheel drive. It’s being presented with two battery options, and joins the Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo, and Turbo S.
