Poland allocates 2.2 GW of solar in renewables auctions, versus 300 MW of wind
The Polish Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has announced the final results of its solar and wind auction for projects above 1 MW and another procurement exercise for renewables up to 1 MW in size. The tenders were held on June 8 and June 11, respectively.
In the first of the two auctions, solar accounted for around 1.2 GW of the assigned capacity. Around 24.7 TWh of power was contracted in total, which is only 68% of the 38.7 TWh that the ERO had expected to assign. Around 300 MW of capacity was set aside for wind power projects.

EU approves Polish € 22.5 billion offshore wind CfD scheme
The European Commission has approved Polish offshore wind Contracts for Difference (CfD)
scheme, through which the country plans to support the realisation of offshore wind projects with € 22.5 billion and reach its renewable energy targets without unduly distorting competition.
The CfD scheme, which the Commission approved under EU State aid rules, will be implemented in two phases.
During the first phase, offshore wind projects will be granted aid using the exception to the auction requirement, due to the existence of a very limited number of projects. The reference price for projects in the first phase will be administratively fixed based on their costs, with a maximum set at 319,60 PLN/MWh (EUR 71,82/MWh).

On 18 May, PGE has sign Letters of Intent on cooperation in offshore wind with the Maritime University of Gdynia, Gdańsk University of Technology, Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk, and the Technical University of Denmark.
With the Maritime University of Gdynia, PGE will to cooperate on developing offshore wind energy in Poland, including establishing an Offshore Centre under the patronage of the Polish Minister of Education and Science, which will focus on knowledge and skills necessary to support the growing Polish offshore wind economy.
As part of the cooperation, PGE will support the Maritime University of Gdynia in creating a laboratory base for the Offshore Center, which will serve for joint research in the development of the Polish offshore wind energy sector. PGE and the University will also work on the implementation of hydrological, hydrometeorological, hyd
Danish developer Orsted and Polish energy company PGE have closed a 50:50 joint venture agreement to develop, construct and operate the up to 2500MW Baltica 2 and 3 offshore wind farms off the coast of Poland.
The president of the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection approved the joint venture in mid-March, after which the partners submitted an application for registration to the National Court Register and have now closed the transaction.
Orsted has acquired 50% stakes in the two project companies.
Orsted senior vice president and head of the Continental Europe region Rasmus Errboe said: “I’m delighted that we have established a strong offshore wind partnership with Poland’s leading utility.
