The mother of a baby was arrested in connection with a video circulating on social media showing a baby being brutally beaten.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the incident was reported from the Jaffna - Ariyale - Navaladi area.
The video shows the nine-month-old baby being beaten by a 24-year-old mother with a stick, then dragged into a room and beaten again with a stick, where the baby cries in agony.
The mother was arrested and the baby was taken into police custody when the Jaffna Police went to the house and conducted investigations into the video which was circulated on social media.

COLOMBO (News1st): A 09-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death with a cane at a witchcraft treatment centre in Delgoda in Kanduboda, Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The 09-year-old was taken to a treatment centre situated in the vicinity of her house by her mother as she was said to be possessed by a devil, DIG Ajith Rohana said.
“She was subjected to an oil treatment followed by a cane treatment that left her unconscious afterwards”, the Police Media Spokesperson said.

Bilateral talks between the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa were held at Temple Trees yesterday.
Following the discussions, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed between the Governments of Sri Lanka and Pakistan and the Prime Ministers of the two countries issued a joint statement.
The Prime Minister said that the way in which the Prime Minister of Pakistan had been elevated to the top by empowering the people through his many years of political activism was remarkable.
The Prime Minister also stated that the measures taken to empower the grassroots and underprivileged people are intertwined with the policies of his government. Later, the two Prime Ministers held a joint press conference.
