Historic Females: Clara Louise Power; Lady of Firsts – Everett Independent

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is the first in a month-long series about noteworthy women in Everett, taken from vignettes written by former City Clerk Michael Matarazzo in his book ‘They Came from Everett.’ The histories of many female residents of Everett might surprise readers, as many of their stories have never been fully told. Matarazzo’s book is available at bookblues.com. There was nothing in Clara Louise Power’s demeanor or personality that would suggest that she would be a trailblazer. Powering Resilient Cities - The Aspen Institute

Powering Resilient Cities The future of our energy system is diversified, distributed, and clean. Cities are epicenters of energy consumption, and can be vulnerable to large scale blackouts resulting from severe weather events and natural disasters, human error, or cyber-attacks. But decentralizing the grid through distributed microgrids, regions can fortify themselves to prevent widespread power failures. And by leveraging underutilized urban spaces, cities can facilitate the growth of distributed energy resources, from generation – like solar panels and small modular reactors – to energy storage like batteries and fuel cells, and even support electric vehicle charging and carbon capture technologies. This panel discussion on Powering Resilient Cities explores how municipal, business, and energy leaders are helping cities adapt to and overcome pressures imposed by climate change, the push to decarbonize, and the need for power system reliability.

Buffalo s school district tells students that all white people play a part in perpetuating systemic racism

Oregon s Department of Education is urging teachers to take training on how white supremacy culture infiltrates math; Army veteran Jeremy Hunt says the move defies all logic on Fox & Friends. Buffalo schools have adopted a curriculum that pushes controversial ideas about race, such as that all white people perpetuate systemic racism. The school district s training and curriculum gained renewed attention on Tuesday when Discovery Institute researcher Chris Rufo reported on a whistleblower s comments. According to Rufo, the whistleblower claimed that Dr. Fatima Morell, who serves as associate superintendent for Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Initiatives, has been pushing  radical politics.
