Corona Launches First Price-Marked Packs

3rd June 2021 AB InBev’s Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I subsidiary has announced the launch of Corona price-marked packs in the Off-Trade. One of the fastest-growing drink categories in the UK, Super Premium drinks in the impulse channel grew by 51% in 2020. At the same time, Corona 4-pack sales hit £6.8m, a growth of 45% year-on-year. The company stated that it hoped to maximise this sales opportunity by launching the £5.99 price-marks on its 4x330ml SKU. The rise of the at-home occasion has contributed to strong growth in the beer category across the Off-Trade in 2020, with sales rising by 37.5% in the convenience channel. As consumers continue to spend time at home, many are said to be treating themselves with 52% of shoppers saying they are willing to pay extra for quality when buying alcoholic drinks to have at home.

In December 2020, leading alcohol e-commerce platform Drizly forecast that hard seltzers would gain greater shelf space in the US in 2021. In October last year, The Drizly 2020 Bevalc Retail Report spoke to more than 500 adults who managed or owned independent alcohol stores, including retailers both on and off the Drizly platform. According to the survey, 64% of respondents said they were planning to make space for more hard seltzers, a category that has stolen the hearts and minds of US imbibers.

Greedy Gordons Group to open two pubs Richard Gordon and Sonya Harvey, the co-owners of Northamptonshire-based Greedy Gordons Group who have run Punch pub the Red Lion at Cranford for the past four years, are poised to open two pubs, creating 60 new jobs. The Pig & Waffle in Grafton Underwood, near Kettering – a private lease with Boughton Estates – will open in early June, while Grade II listed private lease the Snooty Fox in Lowick – acquired by the Greedy Gordons Group before the pandemic – will finally open its doors in early July.  “Our focus at present is being able to finally welcome customers into our wonderful new pubs and continue to safely maximise trade at the Red Lion,” Gordan said. “But we have an appetite for opening further sites in Northamptonshire, including Northampton, when the time and opportunities are right.”

Budweiser expands portfolio with price-marked packs Print 24th May 2021 Budweiser Brewing Group has launched a price-marked format for single cans and 10-packs of its Stella Artois and Budweiser brands. Stella Artois’ 10x440ml packs retail at £11.99, Stella Artois’ 568nl single cans retail at £1.99 and Budweiser’s 568ml single cans retail at £1.89. The launch follows a period of growth for 10-packs and single cans in the off-trade. The brand said shopper preference has been moving towards 10-packs and single can purchases “for some time”, with 10-packs seeing a 2% increased in market share between 2019 to 2020. It said this growth has soared since the start of the pandemic, as the reduction of store visits has caused an increase in incremental basket spend, taking market share to 20%.
