At least 20 Palestinians detained by Israeli forces

AT LEAST 20 Palestinians were detained by Israeli occupying forces yesterday in wide-ranging military operations in the occupied territories, the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) has reported. Soldiers opened fire as they stormed the Kalandia refugee camp, north of Jerusalem, where two people were detained and many suffered the effects of tear-gas inhalation. Israeli troops shot at Palestinian farmers to the east of the city of Khan Younis in the south of the besieged Gaza Strip yesterday morning, forcing them to flee their land. An Israeli navy ship fired two shells at a Palestinian fishing boat as it was sailing six nautical miles off the Gaza shore, forcing it to return.

In the northern West Bank, PPS said an Israeli military raid in the Nablus city neighborhood of Rafidya resulted in the detention of two Palestinians, including Mustafa Shunnar, a lecturer at al-Najah University. It also confirmed a similar raid in Salem village, east of the city, resulting in the detention of another.

Instead of celebrating his release with his family and hundreds of well-wishers in his hometown, however, Masalmeh is currently lying in a critical condition in an Israeli hospital. Doctors say he may have just days to live.
