It was learned Monday evening that New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole would not be making his scheduled start for Tuesday s game against the Baltimore Orioles after he tested positive for COVID-19.
Per Greg Joyce of the New York Post, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed during a Tuesday appearance on New York sports radio station WFAN that starter Jordan Montgomery has also tested positive for the coronavirus. Both Montgomery and Cole are expected to be sidelined for at least 10 days unless they can produce two negative COVID-19 tests beforehand.
The Yankees had one game postponed last month after six players, including All-Star Aaron Judge, tested positive for the virus. Tuesday s contest between New York and Baltimore remained on the schedule as of the afternoon.
