Youngstown Police launches to Operation Steel Penguins

Operation Steel Penguin is announced by Youngstown Police

YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown Police Department Chief Carl Davis announced the launch of Operation Steel Penguins today (April 27). The operation will add another layer to enforcement efforts of the department to reduce violence and remove guns from the streets.  Davis said the initiative will focus on criminals in the community who are not permitted to carry guns but continue to possess them. The operation will focus on areas in the city where gunfire and arrests for firearms are most prevalent, he said.  People found violating the law will be referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution under federal law, Davis said. 

Marshall man sentenced to 72 months for homemade bomb

The defendant, 57-year-old Thomas Asa Harbarger, was sentenced on Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap. “We are proud to work with our state and local partners to protect the public and ensure the safety of our community,” Acting U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei said in a statement. “Thanks to the diligence and quick thinking of the Texas State Trooper in this case, a dangerous criminal is off the street,” he said. A federal jury, in November, found Harbarger guilty of knowingly possessing a destructive device — an improvised explosive bomb — which was not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

NW Arkansas man sentenced to 7 years in federal prison

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – David Clay Fowlkes, acting United States attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, announces 40-year-old Nicolas Brown of Springdale was sentenced Tuesday to 84 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.According to court records on June 15, 2020, detectives with the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force along with Springdale police officers executed a search warrant at a residence that Brown had been residing in. During the search, officers located and seized a handgun, a rifle (reported stolen) and a shot gun (reported stolen), several rounds of ammunition, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Brown was taken into custody without incident.
