On March 11, 2021, at about 10:00 a.m., Detectives with the Eureka Police
Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP) responded to a motel on the
1500 block of McCullens Avenue in Eureka to serve a search warrant after receiving
information that 33-year-old
Joshua Bennett of Eureka was selling narcotics from his
room.
Bennett and two other occupants were detained inside of the motel room. During the
search, detectives located approximately 3 1⁄2 ounces of heroin and a digital scale. Three
ounces of the heroin was located hidden inside a cocoa powder container. $1,580 in
cash was also located and seized as evidence of drug sales.
On March 4, 2021 at about 7:45 a.m., Detectives with the Eureka Police Department’s
Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP), conducted a probation search of a motel room
at a motel on the 100 block of 4th Street. The room was registered to 46-year-old

(TNS) Members of Sacramento County, Calif. s sheriff s specialty units hit the streets Monday wearing body cameras two years after the law enforcement agency first requested funding to allow deputies to record video of arrests, uses of force and other interactions with the public.
The Sheriff s Office has received criticism from community advocates for going so long without body cameras. Kershawn Geyger s parents strongly criticized the law enforcement agency last month after their 25-year-old son was was shot and killed during a confrontation with sheriff s gang investigators and there was no video
Melton
On December 23, 2020, at about 1:30 p.m., a Detective with the Eureka Police
Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP) conducted a traffic stop near H
and Russ Streets for a minor traffic violation. The driver was identified as 50-year-old
William Mark Melton of Eureka.
The 47-year-old male passenger was found to be on searchable probation for sales of
methamphetamine. During the course of the search, Melton was asked to exit the
driver seat. Melton repeatedly refused and was ultimately removed from the vehicle by
officers and detained in handcuffs. Melton was found to be in possession of a concealed
