On March 18, 2021, at about 9:10 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department
(EPD) responded to the intersection of Pine and West Hawthorne Streets for the
report of a hit and run vehicle vs pedestrian collision.
Surveillance from a nearby residence showed a small SUV flee the scene. Surveillance
was made public and EPD asked the community to assist in identifying the vehicle and/or
driver. The driver did not come forward.
A Detective from EPD’s Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP) was assigned to
investigate the case, with the assistance from an EPD Evidence Technician and an
Eureka Police Department press release:
On March 31, 2021, the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team
(POP), with assistance from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (DTF), arrested 41-
year-old
Jorge Alcazar Vasquez of Rio Dell following a months-long investigation into
ongoing sexual assault of a child under 10.
The Eureka Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Section (CIS) headed the
investigation into the ongoing assaults that occurred in Eureka. The report was
submitted to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant for
Alcazar Vasquez was issued.
Alcazar Vasquez was transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional
Gay.
On March 31, 2021, at about 8:20 a.m., Detectives with the Eureka Police Department’s
Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP) conducted a probation search of a room at a
motel on the 100 block of 4 th Street in Eureka. The room was registered to
Charles
Lloyd Gay, 46 years old from Eureka. Gay is on formal probation in Humboldt County
for possession of heroin for sales.
During the search of the room detectives located 205 grams of heroin, 35 grams of
methamphetamine, packaging material and a digital scale. Also located was $5,200 in
cash that was seized as suspected proceeds of narcotics sales.
This is the second time in the month of March that Gay was found to be in possession
