Providence Health & Services gave early access to coveted COVID-19 vaccines to some members of its Oregon governing and foundation boards in December and January.
Lisa Vance, CEO of Providence Oregon, said the practice amounted to preferential treatment for insiders, some of whom are also donors.
The Oregon Health Authority said Providence’s actions didn’t meet the state’s guidelines for initial vaccine distribution.

Public health officials on Saturday reported 775 newly identified cases of COVID-19 in Oregon and the numbers continue to show a trend of declining infections.
Over the past two weeks, new known infections have dropped 26% and hospitalizations have fallen 24% meaning a bump in cases after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays is over.
Deaths, however, continue to rise. They typically lag a few weeks behind surges in new infections because it takes time for the coronavirus to take its deadly toll. The state on Saturday reported 13 new COVID-19 deaths. Over the past two weeks, the death rate has increased 25%.
