Ganjam leopard death case: six found responsible, arrested Post News Network
Bhanjanagar: Forest Department Sunday arrested six persons in connection with the death of a leopard, which was caught in a trap meant to catch wild boars in Kundakhai forest under Buguda forest range in Ganjam district.
According to Dr Bhagabati Prasad Das, who performed autopsy on the dead animal, the big cat died due to asphyxiation and hunger. The knot of the trap around the animal’s neck resulted in asphyxiation.
The department is yet to reveal the identities of the arrested persons.
Notably, the nearby villagers were surprised to see that a leopard got stuck in a trap laid out to capture wild boars Thursday morning. They immediately informed the forest department. Upon reaching the spot, forest department officials launched an operation to free it from the trap.

Tainted IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak, son Akash get bail PNN
Bhubaneswar: The Special Vigilance Court here Wednesday granted bail to IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak and his son Akash. They were arrested in disproportionate assets (DA) case in November last year. The investigating agency could not file a chargesheet even after 60 days of the arrest, an official said. So both Abhay Kant Pathak and Akash got bail.
A 1987 batch IFS officer, Abhay served as the Additional PCCF (plan, programme and afforestation) and was all set to become the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) this June. However, the Vigilance sleuths raided his residence and other premises November 26, 2020 and arrested him for accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Chief Secretary also reviewed the status of track upgradation works on Baltal and Chandanwari routes, improvements at the access control gates, establishment of temporary camps, shelter sheds, health/medical camps and Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) at various locations. He also reviewed the provisions of drinking water supply, lighting, LPG, ration, Medicine and mobile connectivity besides establishment of Joint Control Rooms as per NDMA suggestion.
He enjoined upon the administration to undertake preparations for an expected footfall of 6 lakh yatris this year. To further ensure secure passage of pilgrims, directions were issued to appropriately widen walking tracks, install railings, and construct retaining walls with special focus on laying down pre-fabricated cement tiles on tracks from Baltal.
