The number of hospital patients to die after contracting coronavirus in south and mid Essex has risen above 2,000. Today s figures from NHS England show another 18 deaths linked to Covid-19 have been recorded at Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals. All the deaths happened between January 17 and yesterday (February 2). It takes the total number of fatalities at the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to 2,016. There have been 165 Covid-related deaths announced by the trust in the last seven days. Across the rest of Essex, there have been 14 other coronavirus fatalities announced by hospitals. There have been eight announced by the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, one at Braintree Community Hospital and four at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.

Coronavirus infection rates are falling rapidly in Epping Forest and Harlow. Between January 22 – 29, the rate of infection in the district was posted at 247.6 after 326 new infections were recorded. The week before there were 561 newly confirmed cases, a rate of infection of 426 per 100,000 residents. In Harlow the rate of infection is now down to 335.4 after 292 cases were recorded in the seven days to January 29. The week before the rate of infection stood at 597.2, the equivalent of 520 new infections.
One new death linked to Covid-19 has been recorded at Braintree Hospital. Today s figures recorded by Provide, who run Braintree Community Hospital, take the total number of deaths at the hospital to ten. A further 18 deaths linked to Covid-19 have been recorded at Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals. All the deaths happened between January 17 and yesterday (February 2). More than a dozen coronavirus-related deaths have been announced at hospitals in mid and south Essex. NHS England data shows there have been 17 more fatalities recorded at Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals in the past 24 hours. The deaths happened either on or between January 19 and 31. It takes the total number of Covid-related deaths at the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to 1,998. There were 15 more deaths announced by Essex hospitals, with 10 of those at the trust responsible for running Colchester and Ipswich hospitals. Another was recorded at Clacton Community Hospital and the other four at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.
