BC Seniors Advocate applauds lifting of restrictions at long-term care homes SHARE ON: Health Minister Adrian Dix and Advocate for Seniors, Isobel MacKenzie announce additional supports for seniors related to COVID-19. It was a huge victory for family members and their loved ones when it came to long-term care and assisted-living facilities. Today (Monday), the majority of restrictions were lifted including the limit on the number of visitors. Also, those fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear a mask during their visit, except for when they pass through common areas. The requirement to schedule visits in advance has also been eliminated. Limitations on group activities and adult day programs are also a thing of the past.

With 48 resident cases and 14 deaths as well as 13 staff cases, the facility has been the site of the most severe outbreak in a Northern B.C. care home. There have been 61 cases associated with the outbreak since its declaration on December 12. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 outbreaks on two separate units of the University Hospital of Northern BC remain ongoing. As of today (Wednesday), there are 31 (19 patient and 12 staff) cases related to the Internal Medicine Unit outbreak, declared on December 29.
