Pedestrian struck and killed in Woodbridge
On May 6 at 8:07 p.m., investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Minnieville Rd. and Noblewood Plaza in Woodbridge to investigate a crash involving a pedestrian.
The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2016 Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound on Minnieville Rd. when the vehicle struck a pedestrian near the intersection with Noblewood Plaza. Investigators determined the pedestrian was walking within the roadway, outside of a crosswalk, at the time of the collision.
The striking vehicle remained on scene and the driver was not injured. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash. Speed, alcohol, or drug use were not factors in the collision with the driver of the vehicle. The full identity of the victim, a 56-year-old Woodbridge man, will be released once the next of kin has been notified.

Contee, an alumnus and D.C. native who has worked for MPD for 31 years, said he plans to prioritize community engagement and a reduction in violent crime.
The D.C. Council unanimously confirmed Robert Contee III, the acting chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, as the permanent head of the agency at a meeting Tuesday.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser named Contee as her next pick for chief of police in December after Peter Newsham announced he would step down from the role to head the Prince William County Police Department. Councilmembers said they plan to hold Contee “accountable” amid ongoing calls to implement police reform, urging him to collaborate with the Council to support public safety during his time at MPD.
But authorities were notified when the teacher noticed damage and realized a shot had been fired, police said. The bullet appears to have ricocheted, striking a paper recycling receptacle and the ceiling. The 16-year-old boy was treated at the school for a minor injury, police said, but no one else was hurt.
A school resource officer took the boy into custody, but he refused to say where the gun was, police said.
Hylton was in secure-the-building status and dismissal was delayed for several hours while police searched the building for the gun. It was hidden in another room within the art room, police said.
The D.C. Council unanimously confirmed Robert J. Contee III as the city’s police chief on Tuesday.
Mr. Contee, 48, is a 32-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department and he has been serving as the acting police chief since January.
Mayor Muriel Bowser said Mr. Contee is the only person she interviewed to replace former Chief Peter Newsham, who now leads the Prince William County Police Department.
The chief’s confirmation comes the day after the chairman of the D.C. Police Union said more than 300 officers have left the force since the council passed a police reform bill last year.
