After having fought once in 2019 and once in 2020, this was Las Cruces boxer Austin Trout’s New Year’s resolution for 2021: get busy and stay that way.
Saturday’s 10-round main event in Chihuahua, Mexico, against Juan Armando Garcia, the former world champion says, is only the beginning.
“I want to take it back to the good old Macho Camacho days,” Trout said in a phone interview from Houston, where he’s based in preparation for Saturday’s bout. “… He fought 10 times in a year. I’m trying to get at least half that.”

A Welterweight unification clash between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford is at the top of the wish list of almost every boxing fan for 2021.
WBO champion, Crawford and unified WBC and IBF titlist, Spence Jr were embroiled in a social media war of words on Thursday, as the pair debated resumes and ramped up the appetite for a mouthwatering showdown.
Crawford made a fourth defence of his WBO crown, stopping Kell Brook in four rounds in Las Vegas in November, whilst Spence Jr returned from a horrific car crash to dominate Danny Garcia in December to retain his WBC and IBF titles, a bout his rival was in attendance for.
Caleb Truax was a 50-to-1 underdog when he won a majority decision over James DeGale in London. That was in December 2017, Truax was 34, and that gave him the International Boxing Federation s super middleweight championship.
The victory over DeGale was declared to be the Upset of the Year for 2017 for international boxing. It s difficult to get that distinction twice in a career, but the Osseo fighter could lock it up early for 2021 with a startling defeat of Caleb Plant on Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Once again, the betting odds are 50-to-1, although the sportsbooks definitely fudge the numbers when it comes to boxing. If you want to win $100 on Plant, the risk is $5,000. If you want to bet $100 on Truax, you can collect between $2,000 and $2,750, depending on the book.

While both unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. and WBO belt holder Terence Crawford are grown men, they have seemingly reverted back to children as they simply can’t work out their differences. With both men holding a solidified spot in the pound for pound rankings, the boxing world has clamored for the two to step into the ring to determine just who is the best fighter in the division.
However, the pair have spent more time pointing fingers and blaming the other for the reason why their bout hasn’t taken place. Although fans have taken the side of the fighter they like most, none have been behind the scenes during negotiations.
