The news came on the tail of a sharp decline in Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations, but many signs point to reopening as presenting a complicated road ahead.

Saratoga Arts Organizations Share Lessons Learned From Pandemic

3:59 Arts organizations in the Saratoga region are having a collective conversation about how to operate in a post-pandemic reality.  During a virtual discussion Tuesday evening hosted by the Saratoga Arts Commission, the heads of local cultural organizations shared the lessons they’ve learned during COVID-19 and discussed the ways to move forward. The pandemic has brought instruction in the classroom and studio to the virtual realm. And that also brings new possibilities for connecting students to artists and instructors around the world. Beth Fectau is Saratoga City Ballet’s Artistic Director… “I think the studio setting is going to change now. I think it’s going to be more technologically savvy to allow guest artists to be in the studio with you,” said Fectau.

Kelly Fields Local Guide to New Orleans

Like many visitors to this city, Kelly Fields fell in love with New Orleans at first sight. She was a teenager when she traveled there for Mardi Gras from Charleston, South Carolina, but she recalls that she knew it would be her future home. I moved here as soon as I finished high school, Fields says. Although she didn t come to New Orleans with dreams of becoming a chef, Fields soon found herself working, with little experience, at a small family-run bakery that had just landed a big contract. They had to make 18,000 pieces of bread overnight, she recalls. They recruited everybody they d ever met or talked to, or even seen on the streets, to come help. That one day turned into a full-time job.

Preservation Hall announces free online lessons for educators The Preservation Hall Foundation has unveiled Preservation Hall Lessons, a free series of online of music lessons for k-12 students co-created by the foundation and members of the Preservation Hall community of musicians. Preservation Hall Lessons, designed for teacher utilization in either a digital classroom or in-person, includes content focused on introductory and advanced techniques for the range of instruments in a traditional jazz band, stylistic tips, as well as the cultural and historical context of New Orleans music. “Preservation hall is committed to celebrating the wisdom of the musicians who perform here for generations to learn and benefit from,” says Ben Jaffe, Preservation Hall Foundation Board Chairman & Co-Founder.
