Jacksonville Police Department and Memorial Behavioral Health will work together Saturday to host Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Prescription Drug Take Back Day gives people a chance to safely dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Throwing prescription drugs in the trash or flushing them down the toilet common methods of getting rid of unwanted medications can pose health risks and environmental dangers.
The service is free and anonymous; no questions will be asked.
Staff members will be at the police department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect unwanted prescription drugs in a drive-through set-up. Liquids and needles will not be accepted.
Gleaners Mobile Pantry
The Gleaners Mobile Pantry will be at the Rush County fairgrounds from 3 to 5 p.m. April 20. This distribution is in conjunction with Child Abuse Awareness Week.
DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
The semi-annual DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 24, 2021. This upcoming event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 13th Street parking lot of Rush Memorial Hospital. To make it convenient, you can drive through and drop your items into a large container that a law enforcement officer is holding. If that is not a good time for you, put it in the courier-style drop box in the lobby of the Rush County Sheriff’s Department anytime 24/7. No Cost – No Questions.

Collection sites will be set up around the area this Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the Drug Enforcement Administration s 20th annual Prescription Drug Take Back initiative.
Residents can properly dispose of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs, the organization said today. Liquid and pill medications will be accepted, along with vaping pens without batteries and vaping cartridges. Needles will not be accepted.
Residents can drop off the unwanted medications at any Indiana State Police post, except for the Toll Road Post. To find a post, go to https://www.in.gov/isp/2382.htm.
