Watch: BEST bus catches fire in Mumbai s Bhandup, no casualty reported

Video Screengrab Mumbai: A conventional single decker bus of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking caught fire on Friday evening at Bhandup in Mumbai s eastern suburbs. The incident took place at route number 605 at around 6:05 pm on Friday, near Gandhav Naka. According to BEST spokesperson Manoj Varade, the driver of the bus first saw sparks of fire from the radiator of the engine. The driver immediately vacated the bus and with help of passengers and pedestrians the driver and conductors were able to extinguish the fire, Varade told FPJ. No casualty was reported from the incident and the bus was towed to nearby Vikhroli depot.

Earlier in February, while announcing the 2021-22 civic budget municipal commissioner - Iqbal Singh Chahal announced the compensation money and said that the eligible beneficiaries will get the money within one month. On Tuesday, BEST spokesperson- Manoj Varade said the money is being handed out to the beneficiaries after doing multiple rounds of verification of the documents submitted by the kins of the deceased.

Mumbai: BEST members quiz BMC’s Rs 400 cr loan deal Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) File Image The Committee members of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking on Tuesday questioned the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation s (BMC) proposal of granting Rs 400 crore to the transport body in the form of loan. To ease BEST of its financial burden, the municipal body proposed a Rs 406 crore loan to the cash-strapped transport undertaking in its 2021-22 budget. Earlier, in the 2020-21 budget, the BMC had proposed Rs 1,500 crore to the transport undertaking. However, amid the pandemic outbreak the BMC slashed the budget by Rs 500 crore.
