Waterways Presents Inaugural Big Splash Awards Wednesday, April 7, 2021
Chattanooga non-profit Waterways celebrated their work and the people who make a difference last weekend at a gathering at Crabtree Farms. The organization’s annual event, Save Water, Drink Wine, introduced a Big Splash Award acknowledging area water champions for bringing awareness and stewardship to local watersheds.
Waterways Executive Director Mary Beth Sutton presented the accolades and handblown glass dotty cups created by local artists Prentice Hicks and Maryon Wright from Wauhatchie Glassworks. Attendees snacked on food from Fud Vybez, Lupis, and Conga Latin Food and charcuterie from Pruetts Market and cheered with wines provided by Athens Distributing and Empire Distributing and local beers from Wanderlinger, Naked River, Odd Story, and Chattanooga Brewing.

The County Commission needs to think long and hard about going forth with efforts to raise their wages. Maybe they can look at the fact that a city resident pays double taxes for the same services a county resident gets for half the cost.
One example comes to mind. The multitude of vacant downtown properties that command exorbitant rent rates is a good place to start. Take the former grocery that borders both Market and Broad Streets. To pay down property tax alone cost per month on this site is about $2,100. That doesn’t factor in the cost of being in a third tax district where an entity does what city taxes used to pay for, sidewalk and street cleanup. Senator Gardenhire is correct to shine a light on this process of pay increase.

Ralph Nader was invited to speak at University of the South a few months after the election George W. Bush won over Al Gore. Mr. Nader was asked how he could reconcile the votes he took away from Mr. Gore, because they would have made Mr. Gore the winner. His response was to the point. He replied the questioner should observe Mr. Bush had more votes than Mr. Gore and the questioner should pose the question to those who voted for Mr. Bush.
So today 13 state attorneys general join in the Texas appeal to the Supreme Court to hear of four states who have narrow wins for Mr. Biden over the President. The allegation is constitutional rules were broken and some voters may have voted in violation of the U.S. Constitution. Yet the Texas appeal say nothing of the fact the same process was allowed in Texas. Nor does it note the Texas Solicitor General declines to participate. He would be the state advocate to the Supreme
