Snow Tuesday and Wednesday followed by warm weather for the rest of the week

Following a windy start to the week, snow will make its way into Summit County before the area warms up for the weekend. On Monday, a hazardous weather outlook was issued by the National Weather Service. The outlook stated that on Monday, peak wind gusts in the mountains would be 40 to 60 miles per hour. According to the National Weather Service’s forecast for Frisco, snow showers are expected Tuesday afternoon but will bring little to no snow accumulation in town. There is a 40% chance of snow showers on Wednesday before things start to heat up. While little to no snow is expected in town, Open Snow meteorologist Sam Collentine called for 4 to 8 inches of new snow

As predicted, Monday brought a rapid drop in temperatures with a recorded high of 50 degrees and an overnight low of 2 degrees. Monday night’s low temperature deviated 18 degrees from normal for this time of year but did not break any records. While Dillon saw only an inch of snow, the ski areas picked up more. Breckenridge Ski Resort reported 10 inches of accumulation on Tuesday morning. Spokesperson Nicole Stull wrote in an email that this brings Breckenridge’s total for the past week to over 2 feet of snow. For the previous 24-hour period, Copper Mountain Resort and Loveland Ski Area each reported 6 inches of snow on Tuesday morning, and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area reported 3 inches.

Copper Mountain Resort embraces uphill skiing with race series, daytime routes

Photo by Curtis DeVore / Copper Mountain Resort When Copper Mountain Resort President and General Manager Dustin Lyman saw the level of demand for uphill and backcountry skiing last March, he knew Copper needed to add an uphill race series to the resort’s lineup. Since Lyman began leading the resort at the start of the 2018-19 winter season, the Boulder native and former National Football League player has leaned into the resort’s niche as “The Athlete’s Mountain.” Along with serving as the U.S. Alpine Ski Team’s official training site and as the elite training and competition venue via Woodward Copper Mountain Park for park and pipe sports, Lyman believes uphill is a part of Copper’s athlete-first brand.
