CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Local and state leaders came together Monday to honor the mother of a Corpus Christi teenager who drowned after a rip current off Whitecap Beach dragged him out into the Gulf of Mexico in April of 2019.

Meteorologist in Charge John Metz with the Corpus Christi National Weather Service says rip currents are a phenomenon that occurs on most beaches but knowing what to do can help save a life.
âItâs like a river itâs a very powerful channel of water and it can pull an inspected swimmer out to sea and thatâs the danger,â said Metz.

That is why Mark Gonzalez and the Nueces County District Attorney s Office, along with Nueces County Commissioner Pct.4 Brent Chesney, decided to host a training seminar on human trafficking for local law enforcement this past Tuesday.
Over 130 law enforcement officers from 15 law enforcement agencies attended the seminar, led by Kirsta Leeburg Melton, founder and chief executive officer of the Institute to Combat Trafficking. It focused on ways law enforcement can better investigate and handle trafficking cases.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Terry Samuels is a part of a beach safety task force and all around concerned neighbor of Padre island. He said for years, people have gotten away with crime on the Kleberg County s side of the beach because of lack of patrolling.
âI saw it start in my world years ago when the young kid was buried alive in the sand, Samuels said. Me and the constable had to go down there and help rescue him. And then of course Corpus Christi Fire Department ambulance pulled up on the beach to transport him.â
