Officials in Newark are reporting that members of the Newark Fire Division rescued 18 motorists from flooded areas in the city Friday.
According to officials, heavy rain in the evening hours caused flooding in areas of the City of Newark, leaving motorists stranded in their vehicles.
The Newark Fire Division was inundated with calls for service due to the flash flooding.
Deputy Chief Alfonse Carlucci coordinated nine Newark Fire Division Units, including three Battalion Chiefs, to flooded areas where motorists needed assistance.
Officials said the Zodiac boats were deployed, similar to the boat pictured below, to flooded areas in order to reach motorists.

Authorities on Wednesday identified the woman struck and killed by a minivan in Newark.
Adrian Bradford, 54, was walking in the middle of the street on the 600 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue when she was hit by a Toyota Sienna around 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Bradford, a city resident, died at the scene, officials said.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. No charges have been filed as the investigation continued.

A Monmouth County man drove a load of concrete mix to Newark and dumped it down a storm drain on Thursday, according to Newark police.
A member of Newark s Code Enforcement watched as John Clark, 32, of Highlands, pulled up in a truck and poured the unused concrete, topping off the drain in the area of Roseville Avenue and Orange Street, Newark police said.
The truck was confiscated.
Clarke was arrested and faces charges of illegal dumping and illegal transporting of solid waste. A first offense for dumping carries a mandatory fine of $2,500 for the first offense, increasing to $10,000 for subsequent offenses, mandatory loss of license, forfeiture of vehicle and mandatory community service for up to 90 days.
