Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is right about all of this.
In their rush to defeat President Trump, the Democrats have set themselves upon a path that is littered with the remnants of the gerontocracy. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California is 80 years old and was first elected in 1986. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland is 81 and was first elected in 1981. House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina is 80 and was first elected in 1992. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York is a youthful 70 he was first elected to the New York State Assembly as a 24 year old but he plays older.
Millions of more Americans cast ballots for Mr. Biden than Mr. Trump, paving the way for the president’s Democratic challenger to succeed him next month when he is sworn in on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.
However, first Congress will hold a joint session on Jan. 6, when its members will meet on Capitol Hill to count and confirm the results of the Electoral College and make official the election’s outcome.
Mr. Trump did not include any further information in his tweet about the planned protest.
Thousands of Trump supporters have participated in previous demonstrations held in D.C. to protest his loss to Mr. Biden in the weeks since the White House race ended with the president’s defeat.
Origin
On Dec. 17, 2020, dozens of Twitter accounts started spammingsocialmedia with near-verbatim messagesfalselyclaiming that a woman named Ruby Freeman had been arrested by the FBI for crimes related to election fraud in Atlanta, Georgia.
The viral copypasta read:
“HUGE BREAKING NEWS! Ruby Freeman (the Democrat suitcase blonde-braid woman in GA) has been arrested! She has acknowledged to law enforcement and investigators her role in the Fulton County methods of GOP witness complaints and the after hours ballot scheme count.”
There was no truth to this rumor. The FBI did not arrest Ruby Freeman for election fraud and this person was not suspected (outside of conspiracy-minded circles) of any illegal activity related to the 2020 election.

Hours after the secretary of state said that Moscow was behind the vast cybersecurity breach, the president suggested it might have been China and downplayed the severity of the attack.

Hours after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a conservative radio show host that âwe can say pretty clearly that it was the Russiansâ behind the vast hack of the federal government and American industry, he was contradicted on Saturday by President Trump, who sought to muddy the intelligence findings by raising the possibility that China was responsible.
Everyone is tired of living like this. We miss our families and our friends. We miss having fun. We miss kissing our partners goodbye in the morning and packing school lunches. We miss travel and bars and office gossip and movie theaters and sporting events.
We miss
normal life.
It has been a long, difficult year, and there are many tough weeks still ahead. The coronavirus is raging, and the United States is facing a grim winter, on track for 450,000 deaths from Covid-19 by February, maybe more.
But if we can safely soldier through these next few months, then normal life or at least a new version of normal will be within reach. New vaccines that are highly protective against coronavirus are being rolled out right now, first to health care workers and the most vulnerable groups, and then to the general population this spring.
