KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the Nepal Communist Party s splinter faction Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said on Tuesday that his party has appealed to the international community, including India and China, to extend support to its ongoing struggle against Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli s unconstitutional and undemocratic move to dissolve Parliament.
Nepal plunged into a political crisis on December 20 after Oli, in a surprise move, dissolved the House of Representatives, amid a tussle for power with Prachanda. His move to dissolve the 275-member House sparked protests from a large section of the NCP led by Prachanda, also a co-chair of the ruling party.

The ruling Nepal Communist Party s splinter faction led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Madhav Kumar Nepal has announced a country-wide general strike against Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli-led government on Thursday. Opposing the government s move of administering oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed members of various constitutional bodies, the splinter faction of the ruling party decided to stage a general strike, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, spokesperson for the party, said on Wednesday. Transport service, markets, educational institutions will be shut down during the strike, he said. At a press meet organised at the party office at Parisdanda on the outskirt of Kathmandu, Shrestha claimed that their general strike will be peaceful.

Kathmandu [Nepal], February 3 (ANI): Rival faction of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday held a torchlight protest in Kathmandu against KP Sharma Oli s decision of Parliament dissolution.
The student wing of NCP, All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) held torchlight protest in various parts of the capital where cadres chanted slogans against caretaker Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his unconstitutional move. They also appealed to make the general strike successful.
Splinter group led by Dahal and Nepal on Wednesday unveiled their new protest plans as per which they have called for a general strike on Thursday.
