PALACIOS It’s an overcast windy day as Ellis Chapman walks down a long pier facing Tres Palacios Bay. With his waders in hand, he wears a hat that says, “The Oyster Farm Company.”
This is a therapeutic escape for Chapman who makes the walk nearly five days a week, Monday through Friday. The pier looks out onto the small bay, which is an extension to the much larger Matagorda Bay located in the northern Texas Coastal Bend.
At the end of his walk, about 100 feet in both directions, are two growing systems used for oysters farming, or oyster aquaculture. From this vantage point, the systems appear to be nothing special and could easily be mistaken for trash or abandoned fishing material. However, a closer look into the shallow waters reveals cages of nearly perfect, fully grown Coastal Bend oysters.

FROM BAD TO WORSE: A dry spring led to an even drier July in 1936. That month remains the driest July on record in Minnesota. Climate Observations: In 1936, the dry July also had multiple days over 100 degrees F. More than 700 deaths were attributed to the heat.

There are not many Minnesota citizens alive who remember the terribly dry July of 1936, but it left a real psychological imprint on those farmers who had to cope with it and find ways to survive.
Some of the state’s primary agricultural lands in Big Stone, Chippewa, Otter Tail, Lac Qui Parle, Lyon, Pipestone, Martin, Kittson and Yellow Medicine counties measured less than a third of an inch of rainfall that month. Isanti and Morrison counties reported only a trace of rainfall for the entire month.

Today as we continue to struggle with our new status in Texas as the laughingstock of the electricity industry, we are led by no-name state lawmakers like Paddie, Hancock, Phelan. Names that will never make it into history books as our saviors.
These men struggled to jump high hurdles. As the Texas Legislature ends its regular session, do you feel safe and protected from future blackouts in summer or winter? I don’t. Not enough was fixed.

The world is reeling in horror at the latest Israeli massacre of hundreds of men, women and children in Gaza. Much of the world is also shocked by the role of the United States in this crisis, as it keeps providing Israel with weapons to kill Palestinian civilians, in violation of U.S. and international law, and has repeatedly blocked action by the U.N.
