300,000 Housing Units: FG, cement manufacturers agree on discount charge  On By Johnbosco Agbakwuru  THE Federal Government and cement manufacturers have agreed on a discount price on cement for the construction of 300,000 houses under the Economic Sustainability Plan, ESP, for low income earning Nigerians.  The 300,000 housing unit is part of the Federal Government Social Housing Scheme aimed at providing affordable houses for low-income earners.  Making the disclosure weekend while visiting the completed model houses in Dei Dei, an outskirt of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said it was possible to deliver decent and affordable accommodation that will be within the reach of many Nigerians.

A s the African Continental Free Trade Areas Agreement (AfCFTA) among the 54 participating countries commences today, January 1, 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has insisted that it will sustain its foreign exchange (forex) restriction for 42 import items it had prohibited earlier. The commencement of the pact is coming barely two weeks after the federal government reopened the land borders shut for over one year. The AfCTA agreement allows participating countries to trade about 90 per cent of goods without any duty payment. However, each African country reserves the right to restrict importation of 10 per cent of goods that it has local capacity to produce.
