University of the Sunshine Coast USC Australia’s result in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young Universities Rankings for 2021 has highlighted its success in becoming a globally significant, world-class university. Listed at 161 of 475 universities worldwide assessed by the rankings scheme this year, USC has finished ahead of almost two-thirds of its peers – described by THE as the “rising stars of higher education”. The Times Higher Education website explains that its Young University Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. “The universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available,” it says.

Giving Day set to make positive impact

University of the Sunshine Coast Whether they’re using koala-detecting dogs in conservation projects or disease-detecting MRI machines in mental health work, USC researchers will be able to boost their efforts as donations roll in for the University’s fifth annual Giving Day tomorrow, Wednesday 26 May. G-Day, which is being celebrated online, encourages people across USC’s regions to donate to an area of their choice including student support, mental health and conservation. Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett thanked people inside and outside the University for already pledging to match community donations for the campaign, especially given the difficulties of the past year.

Premium Content Subscriber only On Friday, USC will stage its largest ever Fraser Coast graduation ceremony to celebrate the academic achievements of students who have completed degrees over the past two years. Many are graduates from 2020 whose ceremony last year was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. USC Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett said she was delighted that students who graduated in absentia last year in the midst of a global pandemic were able to experience a formal ceremony to mark the completion of their academic journeys. About 90 students will receive their degrees from USC Chancellor Sir Angus Houston at the ceremony at Maryborough’s Brolga Theatre, starting at 3pm.
